Sandisk Sansa e260 Error Data Abort 00056934 - How to Fix

Problem and solution graciously provided by Keith Humpf, husband and self-described gadget addict.

Problem: Sandisk Sansa e260 Error (Data Abort at 00056934)

Solution: Hold down: Record, Power, Play/Pause. I was trying to put movies on my Sansa, but couldn't get the files to convert to a format the player would recognize. I found software called "RockBox" that replaces the operating system on the Sansa (and other popular mp3 players). There is free software for converting videos to a format that RockBox can play. In the process of connecting my device to the computer, the Sansa locked up with an error (Data abort at 00056934). The error message stays on the screen and the backlight stays lit. I looked up ways to reset the device with some of these searches: sansa reset, sandisk reset, sandisk sansa error, e260 error, data abort 00056934. Some forums suggested pushing the reset button with a paperclip, but there is no reset hole on this model sansa. I could not find any webpage that could help me with this problem.
Finally I found the reset procedure by trial and error. You have to hold down: Record, Power, Play/Pause. OH... and the moral of the story was... make sure the Sansa is OFF before plugging it into your computer's USB port.
